Propane Gas Services

Many homes in the Carolinas don't have natural gas service, making propane the fuel of choice for standby generators. Never Dark's propane gas services handle everything: tank sizing and installation, gas line routing and connection, pressure regulation, and fuel supply coordination. We're your single source for propane-powered backup energy.

Propane is an excellent fuel for standby generators. It stores indefinitely (unlike gasoline or diesel, which degrade over time), burns cleanly, and is available even in rural areas without utility gas infrastructure. A properly sized propane tank provides days of continuous generator runtime - essential when hurricane remnants or ice storms cause multi-day outages.

Tank sizing is critical. A standby generator consuming 2.5 gallons of propane per hour under full load will use 60 gallons per day. For a typical 3-day outage, that's 180 gallons - but you can't run a tank dry, so you need at least 20% extra. We typically recommend 250-gallon tanks for smaller generators and 500-gallon tanks for whole-home systems, providing 3 to 7 days of runtime with a comfortable reserve.

Our propane services include tank installation (above-ground or underground), trenching and gas line installation to the generator, pressure regulation and secondary regulators as needed, leak testing and pressure verification, and coordination with propane suppliers for initial fill and automatic delivery.

We work with multiple propane suppliers across Upstate South Carolina, so we can help you set up automatic delivery - your tank is monitored and refilled before it runs low. Many suppliers offer keep-full programs that ensure you never run out, even during extended outages when demand spikes across the region.

For homes with existing propane service (perhaps for a fireplace or kitchen range), we can often tap into the existing system, though we verify the tank size and regulator capacity can handle the generator's demand. A generator adds significant load - a 20kW unit uses about 2.5 gallons per hour - so what works for a fireplace may not work for a whole-home generator.

With Never Dark handling both the generator and the propane system, you have one point of accountability. If there's ever an issue, you call one number - not a generator company that blames the propane and a propane company that blames the generator.
